For the second Distant Lands, Adventure Time gave us a glance into the past and future of Marceline and Princess Bubblegum’s relationship. Brad, JUSTIN, and Kevin discuss the episode, their overall thoughts, and the surprise appearance of some other characters and what they think that could mean.
Additionally, the hosts discuss the first season of Bravest Warriors, another Pendleton Ward led cartoon that aired on Cartoon Network and later VRV. How does it compare to Adventure Time and will other seasons be discussed in future Floop episodes?
Finally, the hosts talk about some of the current animated television they have been watching in between Distant Land viewings. Check it out.
The HBO Max streaming service launched in May of 2020. It was announced that the service would revive Adventure Time as a new series called “Distant Lands”, which as of now is set to contain four forty minute-ish stand-alone episodes. The first of those four episodes, titled “BMO”, dropped in June 2020, which Brad, JUSTIN, and Kevin review in today’s episode. They discuss the episode itself, including their likes and dislikes, their thoughts on doing a prequel, and the possibilities of what the events in this episode could have on the remaining Distant Lands episodes. They also talk about how it does or doesn’t correlate to the Cartoon Network show.
The gang then discusses Pendleton Ward’s Netflix animated series “The Midnight Gospel.” The hosts have some conflicting thoughts on this very bizarre show, easily the most adult and difficult piece to be featured on FTP.
Flooping the Pig is going on hiatus until the second Distant Lands episode, “Obsidian”, is released, and at this time has no release date. Thanks for your patronage, and we’ll see you again for Episode 81!
It’s taken years, and almost 80 podcasts, but it is finally time for Brad, JUSTIN, and Kevin to discuss the series finale of Adventure Time. Did the writers stick the landing? What did they think of the stories that were and were not wrapped up? JUSTIN has a Golb theory to maybe explain an unexplained story.
They also discuss what seemed like a bold choice at the time for two characters. To wrap up, the hosts reveal where Adventure Time stands amongst their favorite shows as well as their all time favorite episode.
Before all of this, the non-canonical Minecraft episode is reviewed, and was a rare instance where all three hosts came into the podcast having never seen the episode before. A historic episode of Flooping the Pig, and the longest episode to date!
This week, the gang covers the penultimate batch of episodes before the Adventure Time series finale! One more Finn and Ice King adventure precedes a two-parter where Jake learns about his biological father and Betty’s desire to bring back Simon is kicked up the notch.
We also get the preface to the big war between The Candy Kingdom and Gumbaldia. Most importantly, did Brad live up to his promise to not discuss any outside TV shows?
It’s the beginning of the end as Brad, JUSTIN, and Kevin discuss the first four episodes of Adventure Time’s final season!
The mystery man from the Season 9 finale is revealed, and we learn about his relation to Princess Bubblegum and how he came to be, along with some revelations about some of the candy people. Plus, a classic BMO and Ice King adventure, and some mixed feelings on an episode that disrupted the overall flow of the season’s story arc.
The gang wraps up the penultimate season of Adventure Time! Discussions revolve around Jake reconciling with change, BMO and Marceline catch up with one another, providing their unique POV’s of recent events, the complicated history of Fionna and Cake, the ticking time bomb known as Sweet P going, and Finn finally dealing with Fern…or does he?
Brad, JUSTIN, and Kevin wrap up the “Elements” mini-series this week, with an unlikely hero saving Ooo from being consumed by candy forever. The crew has some disparate thoughts on the mini-series in general, but there’s no denying that the ramifications of the events have a big effect on what’s to come for the remainder of the show.
Adventure Time liked the mini-series so much, they did two back-to-back! Hot of the heels of “Islands” we head right into “Elements”, with Brad, JUSTIN, and Kevin covering the first four episodes on the mini-series, plus the Season 9 premiere “Orb” which is a bridge of sorts between the two.
Discussed are dreams and the meaning behind them, some big stuff that foreshadows the end of the series, and Brad once again comparing Adventure Time to whatever he’s currently watching online.
The end of the “Islands” mini-series (and Season 8) brings answers to two major questions: the origin of Susan Strong, and the discovery of Finn’s mother.
In addition to these, JUSTIN and Brad disagree about Martin Mertens, a plot hits way too close to home in the times of COVID, and the episode ends with some discussion of the proliferation of same sex couples in media. Maybe the deepest Floop yet!
