Jerome & Kevin Present – Cancelled Too Soon: Pushing Daisies

Jerome and Kevin are back with another discussion of a show who died too soon. The facts are these. Pushing Daisies started as a moderate hit on ABC in the fall of 2007 but had to shut down early due to a Writer’s Strike (studios not compensating their writers properly).

Although the show came back, all of the momentum was gone after being off for a year. Therefore, after 22 episodes, no more Pushing Daises and no Piemaker to bring them back with a touch. Enjoy the discussion, and we promise, only minimal smooching.

Party Down became a cult classic after its cancellation in 2010. For many years, an occasional comment gave fans hope for a movie or TV show resurgence, and it finally came to be in 2023.

Jerome and Kevin host their first addendum to the Cancelled Too Soon, covering the six episode revival of our favorite show about catering. The good, the bad, the new, the old – all is discussed in this hour (and change) of power.

Ranking the Party Down Seasons

It has been told to death, but it is genuinely wild that a television show from the late 2000s which had only tens of thousands watch its series finale was resurrected over a decade later to do a very belated third season. But I suppose that is kind of fitting for such an offbeat and lowkey sitcom that somehow managed to always have an insanely talented cast that always made it a pure joy to watch.

Jerome and Kevin Present – Cancelled Too Soon: Wonderfalls

Wonderfalls was one of many victims of the FOX Network’s impatience in the early 2000s, cancelled after just one season. Kevin, a fan of the show for many years, discusses with Jerome, a first time viewer, the disadvantages the show had going into it and how it went into survival mode after just one episode, as well as how it is very much a product of its time.

A broad overview of what Jerome considers to be “the weirdest show they’ve watched to date” steers the conversation into thoughts on the show’s concept, the main cast (including a reverse introduction to two actors previously talked about in other shows), its ties to the Whedonverse, alternate casting and future plans, and if another season was warranted. Somehow, The Simpsons and Star Trek are also briefly discussed.

Ranking The Larry Sanders Show Seasons

To a certain extent, I did not know what exactly to expect from this show. I realize now that despite vaguely feeling like it is a very respected and beloved show, I guess I only ever occasionally hear it talked about as a top sitcom of all time. And the first season seemed to make clear why you do not hear it in the conversation Seinfeld, etc. It was simply a very good situational comedy. If anything it is a far more interesting show than an outrageously funny show. Still though, it is very clearly worth going back and watch. You see stuff here that was not done before and then clearly influenced so much of what was to come from the future of sitcoms.
