Ranking the Ryan Coogler Films

Ryan Coogler has pretty much always had the reputation as a talented (if not great) filmmaker despite some of the shortcomings of his films. The one unquestionably disappointing part of his career is that he has been stuck in IP hell. The first film that can be considered a truly original film (depending on how you classify Fruitvale) from Coogler was his fifth film. Hopefully its success means he will no longer be caught up in the shenanigans of Hollywood nonsense.

Ranking the Rocky and Creed Films

The Rocky films have never been my thing. I tried out the first one when I was much younger, and I was so unimpressed that it took me over a decade to give it or any of them another chance. Ranking the Creed Films

I am one of those weird people who has never been greatly invested in the Rocky series. That has led to my current situation which is that it has actually been the Creed movies have made me more emotionally invested and interested in the original Rocky characters.

More than that though, the Creed series is an oddly reassuring series of films. They prove that when care and skill are emphasized, the Hollywood machine is actually capable of producing quality art that has mass appeal. It was not in our imagination. It once was happening far more often.
