Ranking The Righteous Gemstones Seasons

Danny McBride is not an artist I have ever been especially drawn to over the years. Whenever I dipped my toe into his world, I never felt like it was for me. For some reason though, I felt compelled to give Gemstones a proper chance finally. And I was blown away by how much I enjoyed. He is how I rank the seasons (so far).

Ranking the Ryan Coogler Films

Ryan Coogler has pretty much always had the reputation as a talented (if not great) filmmaker despite some of the shortcomings of his films. The one unquestionably disappointing part of his career is that he has been stuck in IP hell. The first film that can be considered a truly original film (depending on how you classify Fruitvale) from Coogler was his fifth film. Hopefully its success means he will no longer be caught up in the shenanigans of Hollywood nonsense.

Ranking the Terminator Films

The biggest problem with the Terminator franchise overall is that of the six films, only two of the films were made by a notably talented director. They keep putting hacks in there and get a variety of the mediocre results. You can give this franchise credit for one thing: they keep making mistakes in brand new ways.

Ranking the Abbott Elementary Seasons

Abbott Elementary is a very critically successful show and is winning lots of awards. I was hesitant to check out the show due to the fact that a show about teaching in a United States city is something I have been doing for a long time, and I just assumed the show would annoy me more than entertain me.

Ranking the Star Trek Films

The Star Trek films are truly fascinating. There are three different and distinct eras of films but there are deep connections to what came before them in some way. These different eras are not just different in terms of the casts but also in the vision and tone of what Star Trek looks like. It was a very unexpected pleasure to go back to the beginning and watch them all in order. Continue reading Ranking the Star Trek Films

Films to Re-WatchBarking Dogs Never Bite

I imagine my journey with Bong was not an uncommon one: I saw Snowpiercer and Okja first and then saw Parasite. After not being wowed by those first two films I saw, Parasite felt eye-opening. I then went back and watched everything he did, and none of them hit as hard as Parasite did (but I still mostly liked them). And there I sat for a half-decade before I ever revisited Bong again. I have finally done so, and here is how I am feeling about his films now.

The NBA Book Canon

Okay, I am cheating here. This is a film and television website/blog. BUT HEAR ME OUT. NBA books are the essentially this long informal serialized series that reminds me of A Song of Ice & Fire (only if they were written better than what Martin puts out). The Palace Intrigue dynamic is just electric. The catty drama is insane. So, in honor of the  HBO ’80s Lakers Series that is inspired by Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s, I figured I would begin this project.

(Now, amusingly enough, said book on the Lakers is not now, nor scheduled to be included. It is frankly quite mid. As you will see, a single volume on a franchise meant to cover many years is often an inadequate combination.)

***LIKE ALL LISTS ON THIS WEBSITE: THIS LIST IS A WORK IN PROGRESS AND WILL BE CONTINUOUSLY UPDATED AS I READ MORE NBA HISTORY***
