The Matt Signal Beyond – Batman Beyond Comics: Part 1 (The Tie-In Era)

Contrary to my original claim I wouldn’t be covering the Batman Beyond comics because there are so many more of them than their BTAS/TNBA equivalents… let’s take a look at Terry McGinnis’ comic book exploits over the years.

These books can be divided into four distinct eras, and we’ll start with The Tie-In Era, helmed by show writer Hilary J. Bader.

The Matt Signal Beyond – Episode 50: The Call Part I

Plot summary: Superman invites Terry to join the Justice League Unlimited, asking him to investigate a potential traitor in their ranks.

The Matt Signal Beyond – Episode 47: Unmasked

Plot summary: Terry recounts a story about his early days as Batman where he revealed his face to a scared child, making him a target of Kobra.

The Matt Signal Beyond – Episode 46: Inqueling

Plot summary: After suffering a massive injury, Inque has no choice but to seek help from her long-lost secret daughter.

The Matt Signal Beyond – Episode 41: Ace in the Hole

Plot summary: When Ace goes missing, Bruce recounts how he came to own the faithful Bat-Hound in the first place.

The Matt Signal Beyond – Episode 39: Untouchable

Plot summary: Terry has to juggle battling a new masked villain, Repeller, and the (allegedly) unwanted advances of a teenage girl.

The Matt Signal Beyond – Episode 34: The Eggbaby

Plot summary: Terry is tasked with taking care of a robotic baby for a class assignment, forcing him to take it with him while trying to foil a group of jewel thieves.

Plot summary: Curaré hunts down the remaining members of the Society of Assassins, forcing Batman to protect one of them.

Plot summary: When Barbara Gordon witnesses Batman murder a criminal, Bruce races to clear Terry’s name.
