#JamesBondFiles: For Your Eyes Only

Director: John Glen

Year of Release: 1981

Should you watch it? No.

Why?

This is one of the most goddamn boring movies ever and by far one of the worst Bonds. Beyond a handful of chuckles and a few decent stunts, this film is absolutely nothing. What a dull follow-up to the great Moonraker!

How is the Bond?

Roger Moore being a slightly more wholesome version of Sean Connery wore thin here with a more dour film. The scenes he does with the underaged figure skater character were just insane in the worst way. Two more Moores to go.

How is the Bond Woman?

Carole Bouquet’s Melina Havelock is one of the most boring characters in the history of James Bond films. The premise of her character seeking revenge against the Bond Villain is a classic for a reason, but Bouquet does not nothing with it. She did shoot arrows though so that is a little something, I suppose.

How is the Bond Villain?

Julian Glover was a great choice for a lowkey Bond Villain, but he sadly never got to do much. He just never felt all that significant to the movie. What a career for Glover though, right?

Does the film irresponsibly present the West as the hero of the world and thus promote imperialism and colonialism as inherently positive?

Yes.
